A dog boot size chart needs the measurement requested by that manufacturer and model. This worksheet records width and length in inches or centimetres without assigning a universal boot size.

How to measure dog paws for boots

  1. Open the current measuring instructions for the exact boot model before marking the paper.
  2. Use a firm, non-slip surface and let your dog stand naturally with weight on the paw being measured. Stop if the dog becomes uncomfortable.
  3. Mark and measure the width or length requested by the maker. Follow its instructions about toenails and heel position.
  4. Repeat for each paw and record the result in the correct row. Keep front and rear readings separate.
  5. Compare each measurement with the model's chart, including its rule for measurements between sizes.

The Ruffwear sizing instructions recommend measuring all four paws. Muttluks' model-specific instructions use the full paw length including toenails for Original Fleece-Lined and Original All-Weather boots. These are different measuring tasks, so the worksheet includes space to record the method.

Use the right size chart

One inch equals 2.54 centimetres. Fill the units you measured directly, or convert and label them. The PDF is a recording sheet, not a ruler or a life-size paw tracing template, so printer scaling does not determine your measurements.

Check fit before keeping the boots

Follow the maker's fitting instructions and begin with short indoor practice on suitable flooring. Watch whether the boot stays aligned and whether the dog can move comfortably. Check toes, cuffs and dewclaws for rubbing, and stop for discomfort instead of tightening the straps further.

Questions about different front and rear boot sizes helped shape the separate paw rows. That discussion identifies a buying problem; it is not product test evidence.

Use our dog boot buying guide for construction and fit tradeoffs. For a winter setup, see cold-weather dog gear. Boots do not make an otherwise unsuitable route or extreme heat safe.

Save or print the worksheet

Fill the download in a PDF reader that supports forms, save a copy and reopen it to check the entries. You can print the blank pages on Letter or fit them to A4. Write the chart-check date and return deadline before placing an order.

Can I choose a size from my dog's breed or weight?

Use the exact model's requested paw measurements. Breed and weight do not supply those measurements.

What if front and rear paws fall into different sizes?

Record the difference and check whether the model is available in pairs or separate sizes. Ask the manufacturer about an unclear result before ordering.
