Download the puppy supplies checklist
Mark what you have, what you need and what can wait. Record your supplies budget and the measurements needed before choosing a collar, harness, bed or crate.
Start with the things needed for pickup and your first few days together. The worksheet leaves room to postpone purchases until you know the puppy's measurements and your home routine.

What to prepare before pickup
The AKC's puppy preparation guide covers food and bowls, identification and walking gear, an appropriate resting or containment setup, toys and grooming equipment. Our checklist groups those purchases around the decisions you need to make.
| Area | Prepare or confirm | Check before buying |
|---|---|---|
| Food and water | Current food, feeding instructions and washable bowls | Confirm the existing feeding plan with the current caregiver and your vet. |
| Identification and walks | Collar and ID tag, fixed leash and a harness if used | Check adjustment range and hardware weight against the puppy's measurements. |
| Rest and boundaries | Resting place, bedding, and a crate, pen or gates where appropriate | Measure usable space and decide how supervision will work. |
| Pickup journey | A transport setup suited to the vehicle and puppy | Follow the transport equipment's instructions; a walking harness alone does not establish car suitability. |
| Cleanup and daily care | Waste bags, cleaning supplies, towels, suitable toys and coat-care tools | Choose for the puppy's size and coat, and store cleaning products out of reach. |
Use the status columns to control the shopping list
Mark one status per row. "Have" means the item is available and appropriate for this puppy. "Need" means you have identified a gap. "Later" means the purchase can wait or does not fit your setup.
Page 2 asks what problem an optional purchase would solve, its cost and whether to buy it now. This is useful for duplicate beds, large toy bundles and specialist outdoor gear. The budget fields are for your own figures; the worksheet contains no assumed prices.
Questions about overbuying recur in this puppy supplies discussion. Those accounts informed the room for deferred purchases. They do not prove which products your puppy needs or will prefer.
Measure before ordering fitted gear
- Record the neck measurement before comparing collar adjustment ranges.
- Use the Puppy Harness Size Guide for chest girth and the exact brand's measuring points.
- Check usable crate dimensions with the Dog Crate Setup Checklist.
- Record relaxed sleeping space in the Dog Gear Measurement Kit.
For the detailed collar, leash and harness handover, use the separate Puppy Walking Gear Checklist. The Puppy Crate Training Schedule helps plan routines after setup; this shopping sheet does not set confinement times.
Using the PDF
Download it, fill it in a form-capable PDF reader and save a copy. Reopen that copy before shopping to confirm your entries were saved. You can also print the blank worksheet on Letter, or fit it to A4. Check one status per supply row and review the list as your puppy grows.
Is every item compulsory?
No. A crate, pen or gate depends on the home and care plan; fitted gear depends on the puppy. The status columns let you record those decisions instead of treating every line as an instruction to buy.
Does this replace veterinary preparation?
No. Arrange veterinary care and discuss diet, health and suitable activity with your vet. This resource helps organize equipment and supplies.
